July 3rd Elephant Shelf

Elephant Shelf is about songs, rhythms and entertainment. Their original
songs embodying all that is best in Rhythm & Blues, Swing, Blues, Country,
the great American songbook, and much else. Rhythms?, “Yes” says Vicky, “we
like to draw on classic styles and rhythms. We sometimes get Terry to play us
a jazz rhythm or a funk rhythm and then we’ll improvise over it to see what
comes out. They have says Vicky, ‘Hours of recorded tracks and outlines for
new songs, all ready for future use’.
The band is blessed with fascinating individual musicians giving a vivid
coloration to the music – Diana Stone, pianist and violinist with her
flair filled & eclectic mix of Gypsy, jazz , and classical influences; Terry
McInerny with true swing on drums. Robbie Charles with electric swing bass
and now string bass; Rosie Swan with a voice that almost catches
fire; and Vicky Martin who writes much of the material and pulls it together
with imaginative arrangements.
The band cites multiple influences, Keith Richards and the Stones, Bob
Dylan, Martin Simpson, Miles Davis, Richard Thompson, Arthur Askey- all of
whom say the band, “Have stayed true to real music”. The band also love of
Vaudeville and Old -Time Music-Hall saying “We really respect all those who
trod the boards for so many years”.
This comes together in a live act that was described by Barry Goldberg of the
Electric flag and Bob Dylan sideman as ‘Really rocking’.
As Vicky describes it “We draw on the classic well loved sounds from the 60′s
70′s and beyond, add our own touches to make it our own music. We never
consciously copy anyone else’s arrangements. We deliberately do it
different”. “…and we add a large dash of good humour and a love of
entertaining. That is us; Elephant Shelf.”
ELEPHANT SHELF are unique a true one-off.

The Stevie K Band

Stevie K Band
Formed in August 2006, The Stevie K Band is a fusion of rock, blues and jazz, in which one moment you could be listening to a heavy rock track, the next a swinging shuffle, as well as some funk-esque tunes.
Inspired by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robben Ford, Eric Gales, Chris Cain and many more, The Stevie K Band is where it’s at for fans of riff-based rock.
Made up of experienced musicians playing music that they enjoy, music that can be both challenging and rewarding to play, it is a band playing what they want, and this will always ensure an exciting live performance and high energy recordings.
Please note that Roadhouse were to play on this date but have had to cancel. They hope to return to the venue later this year.

Jerry Donahue (born September 24, 1946, Manhattan, New York City) is an American guitarist and producer primarily known for his work in the British folk rock scene as a member of Fotheringay and Fairport Convention as well as being a member of the rock guitar trio Hellecasters.
Donahue was born in New York, the son of big band saxophonist Sam Donahue and actress Patricia Donahue and grew up in Los Angeles. Encouraged by his parents, Donahue took classical guitar lessons as a child, but it was Gerry McGee (who later joined The Ventures) who made the biggest impression on him, when the 14-year-old Donahue saw him playing behind-the-nut bends at a performance at the Sea Witch, emulating Earl Scruggs’ banjo technique. Donahue then took lessons from McGee. Regarding regular bends on the fretboard, Donahue cites Amos Garrett as a major influence. Other influences in his formative years were Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, The Shadows and The Ventures; later influences were Clarence White, Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Tommy Emmanuel and Robben Ford.[1][2][3]
After moving to England, Donahue soon became a respected member of the developing British folk rock scene. As a band member, he played with Poet And The One Man Band, Fotheringay and Fairport Convention. Later he recorded and/or toured with artists such as Joan Armatrading, Gerry Rafferty, Robert Plant, Elton John, The Proclaimers, Johnny Hallyday, George Harrison, Cliff Richard, Chris Rea, Warren Zevon, Bonnie Raitt, Hank Marvin, Roy Orbison, Nanci Griffith and The Yardbirds. In 1990 he founded the guitar trio The Hellecasters with Will Ray and John Jorgenson.[3] They recorded several instrumental albums and frequently toured in the 1990s. Donahue has released instructional videotapes and more recently has produced solo projects including Sandy Denny’s Gold Dust (1998) and The Animals’ Instinct (2004)[4] as well as finishing the second album by his short-lived Folk rock band Fotheringay in 2008.[5]
Recently, Donahue formed the band Gathering – Legends of Folk Rock with Clive Bunker, Rick Kemp, Ray Jackson, Doug Morter and daughter Kristina Donahue.[6]
Larry Miller Sat June 5th 2010

- Larry Miller
With his energetic and eclectic style, Larry brings a new dimension of showmanship to his performances. After picking up his brother’s guitar and writing his first song, he felt his future lay in the same direction as his hero Rory Gallagher. Larry himself says: “For me, my moment of inspiration was seeing Rory Gallagher live, I had never experienced anything like it. So loud, so gloriously on the edge of total mayhem, yet Rory was still totally in control. How could I NOT do this too! Like Rory I’d work under my own name, with a band. I’d do all the writing, singing, producing, playing and leading.” During his career, Larry has had his fair share of highs and lows, but he feels that his highest point to date was at the 2009 Cambridge Rock Festival. The whole affair started rather badly, with Larry’s name missing on the website, and then the news that he would not be playing the main stage; they had him headlining the blues tent. Larry and his band set up, and began to play to a rather empty tent. Meanwhile, the main stage had technical problems, so the headline acts couldn’t play. It wasn’t long before the blues tent was overflowing. When the set had ended, the crowd called seven encores. To his surprise, Larry heard the MC call a “National Larry Miller Day!” This was an experience that Larry will never forget: “I have played hundreds of great gigs but there was something else happening here. I really felt that we and the audience were as one and the atmosphere was like nothing I’d never ever experienced before.” Larry Miller is a born entertainer. His life is his music, however, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, he is often seen laughing and joking with his audience during a set, and enjoys interacting with them. He is happy to get in amongst his fans and chat with them after a gig, and is universally known amongst his fans as “the nicest man in Rock and Roll”. The Larry Miller Band features bassist Derek White, Simon Baker on Drums, and Ian Salisbury on the Hammond Organ.
